London’s Heathrow Airport
Heathrow Airport is the world’s busiest airports in terms of number of international passengers. It is located in the London district of Hillington. It is the biggest of its kind in the United Kingdom. In 2010 it was named the fifth busiest in the world in terms of total passengers, the busiest in the European Union in terms of passenger traffic and the second busiest in terms of traffic movement.
Before aviation became common the Heathrow area was a hamlet often considered a thieves’ den. It was turned into a military airfield during the First World War. After the war it went into private hands and was used for the construction and testing of planes. At that time all commercial flights went through the Croydon Airport. Later, it was taken by the Royal Air Forces to be used as a transfer station. carrentals.de Immediately after the Second World War it became again a public airport. The first international flight that took place was between London and Buenos Aires.
In the 1950s the first modern runaways and the first terminal were officially opened by Queen Elizabeth II. During the 70s and the following decades the airport grew to its current size and importance for international flights. In 1998 the Heathrow Express was opened connecting the airport to London’s railway system.
Today the london airport parking is used by more than 90 different airlines. They fly to 170 destinations. It is the main hub for British Airways, BIM, and Virgin Atlantic Airlines. Annually, the airport serves about 67 million passengers. 11% fly within the UK, 43% to near international locations and 46% take long-distance flights. Tower Bridge consists of two towers. They are connected with two horizontal walkways at the higher level of the bridge. They are designed to endure the pressure caused by the drawing lower part of the construction. The pivots and the drawing operating machinery are housed in the lower part of each tower. The original color of the construction was chocolate brown, but it was repainted in 1977 for the 25th anniversary of the ascension of Elizabeth II.
The idea for the building of this bridge came in the late 19th century. The recent growth of London’s East End and increased traffic required that a second bridge is built downstream from London Bridge. A special committee was formed to commission the construction. The plan of the civil engineer Sir John Wolfe Barry was selected among other 50 designs. It included a bascule (drawbridge) with two towers on piers that will open to let the water traffic through.
The construction started in 1886 and finished in 1894. It was built by five major contractors and 432 workers. The bridge took 70,000 tons of concrete and 11,000 tons of steel. After the death of the main designer Jones during the construction, his successor Stevenson decided to create the present Victorian Gothic façade. The goal was to keep the architectural style with the nearby London Bridge. The project is considered to have cost 1.1 million pounds at that time which can be translated into more than 100 million today.
The official opening was presided by the Pince of Wales- future King Edward VII and his wife- the Princess of Wales.

The Enfield Activity
Enfield is a town in North London. There, Peggy Harper, a single divorced parent was living with her 4 children. The event began in August 1977, when two of them complained to their mother that they couldn’t sleep because their beds were shaking. When Peggy went to investigate, nothing was moving.
The next day, the kids reported the same thing and also about a noise like the chair was moving. So Peggy just took the chair out. But as she was turning the lights to leave, she heard the same noise. She turned them on and the noise stopped.
Things escalated from that point, with chairs and drawers moving by themselves and knocks on the walls. These phenomena were witnessed by neighbors and the police.

What is even more strange, is that most of the phenomena that occurred, centered around a certain kid, Janet. Janet, 11 years old, would speak sometimes in a rough male voice claiming to be a guy called Bill who died in this house. Later on, this claim was verified that the death of Bill in the same house happened. Janet claimed to have no control over the voice and would even appear to be in a trance-like state when the voice manifested. One of the girls claimed that the curtain beside her bed twisted several times into a tight spiral and attempted to wrap itself around her neck trying to strangle her. This was substantiated by her mother who had witnessed this on more than one occasion.
Doctors and expert psychologists were summoned to examine the family and especially Janet. Janet also went to a hospital to be examined thoroughly. During her absence, the paranormal activity in the house stopped. It was obvious. So hidden cameras were set up. The cameras recorded her bending spoons with her hands and other stuff she was doing that gave evidence of Janet tricking the researchers.

Madame Tussauds Wax Museum
Madame Tussauds is a wax museum based in London with branches in many big cities. The museum displays wax replica statues of royalty, film stars, sport stars, politicians and notorious figures. It is one of the most famous tourist attractions in London.
History
The Madame Tussauds museum was started by Anna Maria Grosholtz born in Strasbourg, France in the 18th century. Her mother was the housekeeper of a Swiss physician who knew waxwork. She learnt her trade from him.
Her first figure was of Voltaire in 1777. Among her own famous figures are Jean-Jacque Rousseau, and Benjamin Franklin.
After the death of the doctor she inherited his personal collection of wax statues. That’s how her exhibit was started. She started travelling with her figures around Europe. The name Tussaud she took from her husband- Francois Tussaud.
In 1831 she moved to London where she had her first permanent venue on Baker Street. In 1883 the museum moved to its current location Marylebone Road. In 1889 the museum was sold to a group of businessmen and left the Tussaud’s family control. Ever since the museum has had huge success.
Branches
Madame Tussauds has branches in Amsterdam, Dubai, Berlin, Bangkok, Hamburg, Hollywood, Hong Kong, Las Vegas, Moscow New York, Shanghai, Vienna, and Washington D.C. The museums now boast a great variety of exhibits ranging from actors, sportsmen, musicians, public figures, politicians, royalty, to famous criminals.
An interesting fact is that only two Indian actors have declined the offer to have their wax statues created. Those are Aamir Khan and Akshay Kumar.
