Enfield is a town in North London. There, Peggy Harper, a single divorced parent was living with her 4 children. The event began in August 1977, when two of them complained to their mother that they couldn’t sleep because their beds were shaking. When Peggy went to investigate, nothing was moving.
The next day, the kids reported the same thing and also about a noise like the chair was moving. So Peggy just took the chair out. But as she was turning the lights to leave, she heard the same noise. She turned them on and the noise stopped.

Things escalated from that point, with chairs and drawers moving by themselves and knocks on the walls. These phenomena were witnessed by neighbors and the police.

What is even more strange, is that most of the phenomena that occurred, centered around a certain kid, Janet. Janet, 11 years old, would speak sometimes in a rough male voice claiming to be a guy called Bill who died in this house. Later on, this claim was verified that the death of Bill in the same house happened. Janet claimed to have no control over the voice and would even appear to be in a trance-like state when the voice manifested. One of the girls claimed that the curtain beside her bed twisted several times into a tight spiral and attempted to wrap itself around her neck trying to strangle her. This was substantiated by her mother who had witnessed this on more than one occasion.

Doctors and expert psychologists were summoned to examine the family and especially Janet. Janet also went to a hospital to be examined thoroughly. During her absence, the paranormal activity in the house stopped. It was obvious. So hidden cameras were set up. The cameras recorded her bending spoons with her hands and other stuff she was doing that gave evidence of Janet tricking the researchers.
